Air Force officer visor hat, early 1950s.
Approximately Size 57 (hat size not clearly marked). In
olive green napped wool, with sky blue band and piping.
Early style square visor. Comes with two-piece construction
M 1949 Air Force officer hat badge in brass and enamels,
with red star on sky blue background and metal wreath. Brass
wings insignia at the top. Black chin cord. Sweat diamond
shows logo of a headgear factory of the Military Retail
Very good to excellent condition. The star on the crown
insignia separated from the wings and is attached by thread.
Some discrete moth damage to the underside of the crown on
the one side(see pic), not immediately noticeable unless you
decide to do a meticulous inspection of the entire hat. Two
small moth holes on the inside bottom edge of the cap band,
not visible from the outside.
Very attractive Soviet hat, a true classic now associated
with dogfighting Mig Pilots of the early Jet Age. Early Cold
War hats like this have never been common and they have
become even more difficult to locate over the years.
