Order of the Red Banner of Labor, Type 6, Variation 1, "hammer on top of the sickle" version, #400674, circa late 1950s issue.

Silver gilt, enamels; 47.6 mm tall (incl. eyelet) x 36.8 mm wide; weighs 36.2 g not including the suspension and connecting link. Riveted three-piece construction. This Leningrad Mint sub-variation manufactured in 1957 is among the earliest of the Type 6 issues, featuring distinctive hammer and sickle emblem: the handle of the hammer goes over the sickle (in the same manner as on Type 5 and the earlier types). Vast majority of the Type 6 have the later style emblem, with the handle of the hammer under the sickle.

In outstanding, excellent condition. The enamel is essential

In outstanding, excellent condition. The enamel is essentially perfect having only a few microscopic contact marks that are not easy to find even under a 10x magnification and completely invisible to the naked eye. The gilt finish is nicely preserved although partly obscured by attractive silver patina.

Comes on original suspension device, a two-layer model in steel with an integral catch of the pin. The old, probably original ribbon is slightly faded and shows a minor amount of wear at the bottom but is still sound and very presentable. (We believe it adds a great amount of character to the award, but just in case the new owner prefers a brand-new ribbon, we will include a sufficient length of it on the side at no extra charge.) The silver connecting link appears to be original, and its ends are still joined with solder in the seamless manner characteristic of the Soviet mint.
