The size is continental standard 6" x 4", unmailable without a cover, published by the Visual Arts Publishing House, Moscow, circulation 140,000. The postcard is No. 9 of a set of annotated art postcards depicting the role and actions of the Soviet Navy during WW2. The artwork is an offset print of a painting by I. Rodinov. The annotation on the verso explains the imagery saying that in 1942 - 1943, the Volga River Flotilla provided escort service to convoys of oil tankers and barges up the river from Astrakhan at the mouth of the Volga up to the port of Saratov, often having to double

During the summer 1943 navigation, 8,000 ships were escorted up the river delivering 7 million tons of oil products, protected from German Luftwaffe bombing raids by the antiaircraft guns of the Volga Flotilla ships.
