First Day Cover Commemorating the Soviet Interkosmos International Space Exploration Program, 1981.

The size is 6 ¼" x 4 ½", published by the Ministry of Communications of the USSR, circulation unknown. The large commemorative postal stamp is canceled with the First Day stamp issued by the post office of the Baikonur Cosmodrome and dated 12 April 1981, the 20th anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's first manned space flight celebrated in the Soviet Union as Cosmonautics Day. Interkosmos was a Soviet-driven international space program designed to promote cooperation among socialist countries in space exploration and research.
