Vase in Milk Glass featuring Soviet athletes, circa 1950s-60s.
Measures 10" (25 cm) tall; the base is approx. 3 ¾ " wide at the top. Clear glass body had a second layer of white glass applied to the inside, giving the vase a slightly iridescent look. Interesting artwork in beige tone depicts young Soviet athletes training in a huge indoors facility.
The larger vignette providing the backdrop for the athletes is topped with the Soviet national emblem and flags of Soviet Army, Navy and Air Force flying above. The bottom shows a panoply of weapons including a tank, artillery pieces and a warship, with the Soviet military star emblem prominently featured in the center. The not so subtle message is of the true purpose of sports training in the USSR.
In excellent condition. There are some minor scuffs to the decorative orange border near the top edge, not detractive.
The glass shows no chips or scratches; the artwork and original gloss are beautifully preserved.
