"Dogs Pointing", Large Statuette in Cast Iron by the Kusa Foundry, dated 1970.

This massive piece measures 15 ½ " in length, 7" in width, and weighs 17.5 lb. Original artwork was created by Pierre- Jules Mene, a XIX C. French sculptor highly acclaimed for his portrayals of animals and hunting scenes. It shows a setter and pointer flushing out a grouse from its grassy hideaway. The sculpture is of course not as highly detailed as the XIX C. bronzes, but still very impressive for an iron casting.

There are Kusa Foundry mark "K" and a 1970 date to the bottom. The Kusa Iron Works was not as famous and prolific a foundry as its counterpart Kasl

There are Kusa Foundry mark "K" and a 1970 date to the bottom. The Kusa Iron Works was not as famous and prolific a foundry as its counterpart Kasli, and consequently, its sculptures do not appear for sale as frequently. In very good condition. The black finish has been restored but the sculpture itself is flawless, without cracks, rust or pitting.

An interesting example of a traditional sculpture by a lesser known Soviet maker. This classic casting can equally well decorate a hunting cabin, collector's library or living room fireplace mantel.
