"Squadron Battleships of the Borodino Class", Vladimir Grivovskiy, C 2012, Moscow.

"Squadron Battleships of the Borodino Class", Vladimir Grivovskiy, C 2012, Moscow. Russian text, 207 pp, 8" x 10 " x 1/2" format, laminated hardcover.

Includes a great number of very clear period photographs plus extensive technical drawings. The book covers the battleship design that has caused substantial controversy, especially after the inglorious demise of its lead ship Borodino and two others in the battle of Tsushima. Experts in the US announced at the time that this line of battleships "the worst designed of all ever built". On the other hand, the Russian specialists even now consider the Borodino class far more advanced than all foreign contemporaries; in their opinion, the catastrophic results of the battle was due to the Russian battleships being badly overloaded, not because of their poor design. The last ship of the series, Slava indeed acquitted herself well in 1917 in the final uneven battle against the German dreadnoughts in the Gulf of Riga.
