The book covers a very interesting part of Soviet naval development: an attempt at creating a high seas fleet of battleships and battle cruisers. The biggest of them - such as the Soviet Union - were to be on par or at least comparable with heaviest Japanese and American ships of the line like the Yamato or the Iowa. Due to Stalin's fascination with heavy ships, their construction continued in post-war years, even when other major maritime powers long since concentrated on building aircraft carriers. The work on the last three ships of the Stalingrad class battle cruisers (Project 82) was abandoned only after Stalin's death in 1953. Although never completed, the super battleship ship building in USSR makes a very interesting story.
