Badge "To a Best Shock-Worker" in Commemoration of the 15th Anniversary of the October Revolution, 1932.

Badge "To a Best Shock-Worker" in Commemoration of the 15th Anniversary of the October Revolution, 1932.

Brass, enamels; measures 42.5 x 34.4 mm. Massive badge of characteristically early design, of riveted two-piece construction. Later during the 30s, awards such as this one were banned by a special decree of the government, as they were too close in appearance with the highest state decorations, i.e. orders. The depiction of Lenin is in typical early "angry" style, portraying a completely different personality than the late post-war portraits oozing wisdom and benevolence.

The badge is in very fine condition. The red enamel is professionally restored on the star and the upper portion of the top banner to the right of Lenin's head (in a small triangular area starting from the back of the head to the two flag finials). The repair was done so well that it is almost undetectable without ultraviolet light. The red enamel elsewhere shows only a few tiny contact marks, no chips or significant rubbing, and still has nice luster. The white enamel is essentially perfect. The portrait of Lenin has a few scratches, but its details are nicely preserved. The wreath shows almost no wear, and a good amount of the original gilt finish is clearly visible in its recessed areas. The gilt finish is extremely well-preserved on the reverse, especially around the screw post. The rivets holding the bas-relief are intact and tight. The screw post is full length, nearly 10 mm long. The screw plate is of the period, fits perfectly, and may be original to the badge.

    /See "Avers 8" page 64, fig. 418/.
