Order of the Red Star, Type 3 Variation 2 Sub-variation 2, #7671, circa early 1940.

Order of the Red Star, Type 3 Variation 2 Sub-variation 2, #7671, circa early 1940.

In silver and enamel; measures 47.4 mm in height, 49.0 mm in width. Features so-called "Large Mondvor" mint mark approx. 8 mm wide, with characters measuring about 2 mm in height. There is a Cyrillic maker mark "ЛУ" ("LU") to the left and slightly above the mint mark. This particular piece is from the second series of the "Large Mondvor" Red Stars manufactured at the Leningrad Mint in 1937, with known serial number range of 7100-8505.

In excellent condition, extremely uncommon for the "Mondvor" Red Star. The enamel is exceptionally well preserved and exhibits beautiful original luster and translucency. The only signs of wear visible to the unaided eye - and that only at very careful inspection - are a minuscule flake near the base of the 3 o'clock arm and an even less noticeable scratch to the top arm. Besides that, there only a couple of microscopic contact marks that can be barely found even with a 10x loupe. The medallion is similarly well preserved: there are a couple of tiny scratches and just the tiniest amount of wear to the high points; the details are beautifully crisp, nearly pristine. There is very attractive toning to silver on both the obverse and reverse. The screw post is full length, nearly 11 mm measured from its base. Original screw plate in silver is included.

To repeat, a "Mondvor" Red Star is in this condition is a truly exceptional find, rare opportunity for the discriminating collector.
