Excellent Combat Engineer badge, mid 1940s.
Brass, enamels; 47.2 x 38.8 mm. An extremely hard to find early MTKh version of the badge. Features eight scrolls in the top ornament that are less curved than the far more common NKPS version of the badge.
In outstanding, excellent condition - extraordinary for any combat proficiency badge of WW2 era, let alone a rare variety. The enamels are practically flawless having only a few microscopic imperfections that appear to be technological imperfections or function of age rather than the result of wear. The enamel retains amazing luster and vibrancy. The gilt finis is perfect on both the obverse and reverse. The grey finish on the edge of the shield is likewise pristine. The screw post is full length, approx. 12 mm. Includes original screw plate marked "MTKh Jewelry Workshop".
A magnificent piece deserving a spot in the most advanced collection of Soviet Excellent Soldier badges.
