Large Wooden Munitions Box its handles removed has hinges and a lockable hasp for securing the contents; unusual stenciling in German on the front and the back as well as under the lid raises the strong possibility that this box dates to the First World War.
27 ½" x 9 ½" x 15 ½". Please see our photographs for the actual wording of the German stencils. Remnants of instructions printed on green paper remain under the lid. four screw holes at both ends indicate that the box originally had two handholds.
Good to very good condition. One small knothole as well as a small, narrow knothole-like area are now open.
With the German word heimat ("homeland") in it, the stenciled inscription on the reverse obviously carried some sort of patriotic meaning.
Note, due to dimensions and weight, special handling charges will apply to overseas customers.
