Table medal commemorating the 40th anniversary of the
October Revolution, 1958.
Bronze, diameter 70 mm. Obverse shows portrait of a
determined Lenin against the backdrop of a flowing banner.
Reverse bears the inscription, "Lenin lives forever" - words
that clearly evoke the verse, "Lenin lives, lived and will
live" from the famous poem written by the futurist poet
Vladimir Mayakovsky at the time of Lenin's death in 1924.
Edition of 1174.
Excellent condition. The medal was lightly polished many
years ago and the highlights are still modestly brighter
than the background; as frequently happens when table medals
are polished without being carefully cleaned afterward,
there are microscopic accumulations of old polish around the
lettering and elsewhere - easily removable. Fortunately,
the medal appears to have been polished only once and there
is no noticeable loss to the detail of the artwork.
